A friend of mine allowed me to borrow her copy of Eragon. Her aunt bought her a copy during its first release, but it was not yet available here in the Philippines. So I eagerly borrowed her copy. I have to admit that, at first, I didn't quite like the book. I can't read it without feeling bored at times. And lo, I haven't finished reading it then.
A few years after that I decided to read the book again. I bought a copy in paperback and once again tried to read it. This time, older as I was, I found the then boring parts exciting. I couldn't fathom why I didn't like it before as it was an exciting read after all. Maybe I guess my age affected my judgement of a book. So I made a pact that day that I should schedule the books, as well as authors, on when exactly I'm going to read them.
One boy... One dragon... A world of adventure.
When Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy; perhaps it will buy his family meat for the winter. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.
Over night his simple life is shattered, and he is thrust into a perilous new world of destiny, magic and power. With only an ancient sword and the advice of an old storyteller for guidance, Eragon and the fledgling dragon must navigate the dangerous terrain and dark enemies of an Empire ruled by a king who's evil knows no bounds.
Can Eragon take up the mantle of the legendary Dragon Riders? The fate of the Empire may rest in his hands...
How I regretted that I never read it fully then. I was fascinated by the story and I thought it was certainly a classic in-the-making. And just a few months later after I knew of the book, I just couldn't help but be excited as the novel would be adapted to a movie.
