The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the first movie in the projected trilogy, will be released on December 14, 2012. The Desolation of Smaug will serve as a follow-up to be released in December of the following year and will conclude with There and Back Again on July 18, 2014. This prequel to The Lord of the Rings trilogy was once again directed by the one and only Middle-Earth movie-master, Peter Jackson.
