Sam Raimi's Oz The Great And Powerful Teases With A Trailer, Movie Posters And Photos

Oz The Great And Powerful

L. Frank Baum's Oz has been getting a lot of attention lately. For one thing there's an animated movie adaptation called Dorothy of Oz that's currently on the works. For another there is this new live action movie adaptation that goes very differently than the Judy Garland original. This time it focuses on The Great Wizard itself. And what's more? Walt Disney Pictures is attached to it.

Directed by veteran horror and super hero movie director Sam Raimi, Oz: The Great and Powerful will tell how The Wizard, who is portrayed by James Franco, came to the land of Oz -- that's even before Dorothy and Toto were blown away by a tornado and transported to this wonderful land.

Aside from James Franco, the film casts veteran actors such as Rachel Weisz playing Evanora and Mila Kunis as Theodora (both wicked witches) just to mention a few. Oz: The Great and Powerful is set for a March 8, 2012 release. That's a long way ahead, giving us time to review and reread the Oz stories, which I think still appeals to me even at this age.
