Contemporary short stories are never really my cup of tea, but this movie adaptation of the collection by visionary writer Tim Winton might be giving me a run for my money. The Turning is based on the book of the same title, which chronicles lives of various people living in different parts of Australia.
This movie will be composed of 18 separate stories all directed by David Wenham, Robert Connolly, Tony Ayres, Warwick Thornton, Jonathan auf der Heide, Mia Wasikowska, Claire McCarthy, Justin Kurzel, Rhys Graham, Jub Clerc, Shaun Gladwell, Anthony Lucas, Ian Meadows and Stephen Page.
The cast are all top-caliber, able to bring the heavy drama in each stories. It includes Cate Blanchett, Myles Pollard, Rose Byrne, Hugo Weaving, Miranda Otto, Richard Roxburgh, Susie Porter, Harrison Gilbertson, Robyn Nevin and Callan Mulvey.

The Turning made its debut in Melbourne International Film Festival on 3 August 2013, during which it received positive, raving reviews. No word yet has been given regarding the movie's international release.
