Book of Night by Holly Black

Book of Night by Holly Black

Synopsis

#1 New York Times bestselling author Holly Black makes her stunning adult debut with Book of Night, a modern dark fantasy of shadowy thieves and secret societies in the vein of Ninth House and The Night Circus.

One of Publishers Weekly's top ten most anticipated books of 2022!

Charlie Hall has never found a lock she couldn’t pick, a book she couldn’t steal, or a bad decision she wouldn’t make. She's spent half her life working for gloamists, magicians who manipulate shadows to peer into locked rooms, strangle people in their beds, or worse. Gloamists guard their secrets greedily, creating an underground economy of grimoires. And to rob their fellow magicians, they need Charlie.

Now, she’s trying to distance herself from past mistakes, but going straight isn’t easy. Bartending at a dive, she’s still entirely too close to the corrupt underbelly of the Berkshires. Not to mention that her sister Posey is desperate for magic, and that her shadowless and possibly soulless boyfriend has been keeping secrets from her. When a terrible figure from her past returns, Charlie descends back into a maelstrom of murder and lies. Determined to survive, she’s up against a cast of doppelgängers, mercurial billionaires, gloamists, and the people she loves best in the world ― all trying to steal a secret that will allow them control of the shadow world and more.

Book of Night by Holly Black will be released on May 3, 2022.

Maggie Stiefvater To Release 'Bravely', A Story Set In Disney Pixar's 'Brave' World

If you are both a fan of Maggie Stiefvater's magical stories and poetic writing, and of Disney Pixar's wild Scottish-inspired adventure (Brave) then the upcoming novel called Bavely by Maggie Stiefvater is the best fit for you. Set in the same world of DunBroch, the novel is a standalone story, which does not require you to watch the said movie.

The official cover of Bravely by Maggie Stiefvater has been revealed, which features Merida, the same red-haired main character we love. The only thing I'd miss in this novel is her accent (thanks to Kelly Macdonald's iconic voice), which is one of the things I loved about the movie!

Being Vaccinated In Times Of Covid-19 Pandemic

Covid-19 Vaccine
I am now fully vaccinated against COVID-19. In this time of uncertainties at least one of the items that keeps on bugging my thoughts is ticked off from my list. Mental health is such a serious matter in this day and age, and we must grab any little hope we see on the horizon.

Yes the virus does not only bring physical health issues, but mental health issues as well. Being on lock down for more than a year now most of us are desperate to be outside and be with nature again. So the only immediate action we can do, since I believe this pandemic is not gonna end as soon as we would like it, is to be vaccinated.

I know some anti-vaxxers would raise their eye-brows on this but this is the only way we can protect our selves and the ones we love in this trying times. The vaccines may be approved for emergency use only but the benefits out-weigh the risks...

The Discord of Gods by Jenn Lyons

Synopsis

The Discord of Gods marks the epic conclusion to Jenn Lyons's Chorus of Dragon series, closing out the saga that began with The Ruin of Kings, for fans of Brandon Sanderson and Patrick Rothfuss.

The end times have come.

Relos Var's final plans to enslave the universe are on the cusp of fruition. He believes there's only one being in existence that might be able to stop him: the demon Xaltorath.

As these two masterminds circle each other, neither is paying attention to the third player on the board, Kihrin. Unfortunately, keeping himself classified in the "pawn" category means Kihrin must pretend to be everything the prophecies threatened he'd become: the destroyer of all, the sun eater, a mindless, remorseless plague upon the land. It also means finding an excuse to not destroy the people he loves (or any of the remaining Immortals) without arousing suspicion.

Kihrin's goals are complicated by the fact that not all of his "act" is one. His intentions may be sincere, but he's still being forced to grapple with the aftereffects of the corrupted magic ritual that twisted both him and the dragons. Worse, he's now tied to a body that is the literal avatar of a star - a form that is becoming increasingly, catastrophically unstable. All of which means he's running out of time.

After all, some stars fade - but others explode.

The Discord of Gods by Jenn Lyons will be released on April 26, 2022.

Cytonic by Brandon Sanderson

Cytonic by Brandon Sanderson

Synopsis

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Reckoners series, the Mistborn trilogy, and the Stormlight Archive comes the third book in an epic series about a girl who will travel beyond the stars to save the world she loves from destruction.

Spensa’s life as a Defiant Defense Force pilot has been far from ordinary. She proved herself one of the best starfighters in the human enclave of Detritus and she saved her people from extermination at the hands of the Krell—the enigmatic alien species that has been holding them captive for decades. What's more, she traveled light-years from home as an undercover spy to infiltrate the Superiority, where she learned of the galaxy beyond her small, desolate planet home.

Now, the Superiority—the governing galactic alliance bent on dominating all human life—has started a galaxy-wide war. And Spensa's seen the weapons they plan to use to end it: the Delvers. Ancient, mysterious alien forces that can wipe out entire planetary systems in an instant. Spensa knows that no matter how many pilots the DDF has, there is no defeating this predator.

Except that Spensa is Cytonic. She faced down a Delver and saw something eerily familiar about it. And maybe, if she's able to figure out what she is, she could be more than just another pilot in this unfolding war. She could save the galaxy.

The only way she can discover what she really is, though, is to leave behind all she knows and enter the Nowhere. A place from which few ever return.

To have courage means facing fear. And this mission is terrifying.

Cytonic by Brandon Sanderson will be released on November 23, 2021.

The Stranger in the Lifeboat by Mitch Albom

The Stranger in the Lifeboat by Mitch Albom

Synopsis

What would happen if we called on God for help and God actually appeared? In Mitch Albom's profound new novel of hope and faith, a group of shipwrecked passengers pull a strange man from the sea. He claims to be “the Lord.” And he says he can only save them if they all believe in him.

Adrift in a raft after a deadly ship explosion, nine people struggle for survival at sea. Three days pass. Short on water, food and hope, they spot a man floating in the waves. They pull him in.

“Thank the Lord we found you,” a passenger says.

“I am the Lord,” the man whispers.

So begins Mitch Albom’s most beguiling and inspiring novel yet.

Albom has written of heaven in the celebrated number one bestsellers The Five People You Meet in Heaven and The First Phone Call from Heaven. Now, for the first time in his fiction, he ponders what we would do if, after crying out for divine help, God actually appeared before us? What might the Lord look, sound and act like?

In The Stranger in the Lifeboat, Albom keeps us guessing until the end: Is this strange and quiet man really who he claims to be? What actually happened to cause the explosion? Are the survivors already in heaven, or are they in hell?

The story is narrated by Benji, one of the passengers, who recounts the events in a notebook that is later discovered—a year later—when the empty life raft washes up on the island of Montserrat.

It falls to the island’s chief inspector, Jarty LeFleur, a man battling his own demons, to solve the mystery of what really happened.

A fast-paced, compelling novel that makes you ponder your deepest beliefs, The Stranger in the Lifeboat suggests that answers to our prayers may be found where we least expect them.

The Stranger in the Lifeboat by Mitch Albom will be released on November 2, 2021.

Brothers of the Wind by Tad Williams

Synopsis

Set in the New York Times bestselling world of Osten Ard, this short novel continues the saga that inspired a generation of fantasists

Pride often goes before a fall, but sometimes that prideful fall is so catastrophic that it changes history itself.

Among the immortal Sithi of Osten Ard, none are more beloved and admired than the two sons of the ruling family, steady Hakatri and his proud and fiery younger brother Ineluki -- Ineluki, who will one day become the undead Storm King. The younger brother makes a bold, terrible oath that he will destroy deadly Hidohebhi, a terrifying monster, but instead drags his brother with him into a disaster that threatens not just their family but all the Sithi -- and perhaps all of humankind as well.

Set a thousand years before the events of Williams's The Dragonbone Chair, the tale of Ineluki's tragic boast and what it brings is told by Pamon Kes, Hakatri's faithful servant. Kes is not one of the Sithi but a member of the enslaved Changeling race, and his loyalty has never before been tested. Now he must face the terrible black dragon at his master's side, then see his own life changed forever in a mere instant by Ineluki's rash, selfish promise.

New Series: 'The Outlaws Scarlett And Browne' By Jonathan Stroud Gets Official Cover (US Edition)

Jonathan Stroud has always been on my radar. Everytime he publishes a new book I am always eager to read it. He is on the level of some of my favorite authors for young adult readers--a list that includes Rick Riordan, Eoin Colfer, and etc.

It's been quite a while since I read something new from author Jonathan Stroud and I am so glad that he will be releasing a new series, starting with The Outlaws Scarlett and Browne. Its official US edition cover has been unveiled (the UK edition was unveield ages ago) and it made me even more excited to read it.

Check out the official cover of The Outlaws Scarlett and Browne by Jonathan Stroud.

The Outlaws Scarlett and Browne by Jonathan Stroud

Synopsis

Action! Humor! Fantasy! This new series opener is a tour de force from international bestseller Jonathan Stroud.

Scarlett McCain is a shoot-first ask-questions-later kind of outlaw. She scrapes by on bank heists, her wits—and never looking back.

She’s on the run from her latest crime when she comes across Albert Browne. He is the sole survivor of a horrific accident, and against her better judgement, Scarlett agrees to guide him to safety.

This is a mistake. Soon there are men with dogs and guns and explosives hot on their heels. Scarlett’s used to being chased by the law, but this is extreme. It was only a little bank she’d robbed . . .

As they flee together across the wilds, fighting off monstrous beasts, and dodging their pursuers, Scarlett comes to realize that Albert Browne is hiding a terrible secret. And that he may be the most dangerous threat of all.

In this fast-paced, quick-witted whirlwind of a story, Jonathan Stroud introduces two unlikely allies—the outlaws Scarlett and Browne—who are about to become the most notorious renegades in all that’s left of Britain.

The Outlaws Scarlett and Browne by Jonathan Stroud will be released on October 5, 2021.

'The Wisdom Of Crowds' By Joe Abercrombie Gets Official Cover

The Wisdom of Crowds, the gut-wrenching finale to Joe Abercrombie's The Age of Madness trilogy, finally gets an official cover. I'm especially looking forward to the revelation of this cover since this is among the few books that I buy their UK edition of.

I admit I love the covers Gollancz have had for this particular author and that I am very partial about. Gollancz has been consistently delivering eye-catching covers and I was never disappointed. Even my OCD has never complained thus far...

Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone by Diana Gabaldon

Synopsis

The author of the #1 New York Times bestselling Outlander series returns with the newest novel in the epic tale.

The past may seem the safest place to be . . . but it is the most dangerous time to be alive. . . .

Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall were torn apart by the Jacobite Rising in 1743, and it took them twenty years to find each other again. Now the American Revolution threatens to do the same.

It is 1779 and Claire and Jamie are at last reunited with their daughter, Brianna, her husband, Roger, and their children on Fraser’s Ridge. Having the family together is a dream the Frasers had thought impossible.

Yet even in the North Carolina backcountry, the effects of war are being felt. Tensions in the Colonies are great and local feelings run hot enough to boil Hell’s tea-kettle. Jamie knows loyalties among his tenants are split and it won’t be long until the war is on his doorstep.

Brianna and Roger have their own worry: that the dangers that provoked their escape from the twentieth century might catch up to them. Sometimes they question whether risking the perils of the 1700s—among them disease, starvation, and an impending war—was indeed the safer choice for their family.

Not so far away, young William Ransom is still coming to terms with the discovery of his true father’s identity—and thus his own—and Lord John Grey has reconciliations to make, and dangers to meet . . . on his son’s behalf, and his own.

Meanwhile, the Revolutionary War creeps ever closer to Fraser’s Ridge. And with the family finally together, Jamie and Claire have more at stake than ever before.

Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone by Diana Gabaldon will be released on November 23, 2021.

New Series Or Standalone Novel? 'Daughter Of The Deep' By Rick Riordan Announced

Now that Rick Riordan is about to close the curtains on his Greek and Roman mythology series, what is he up to next? He is one of the most popular writers for middle school and young adults, and even now that I am on my 30s I am still reading his stories...

I may be a little late on sharing this news, but he will be kinda stepping off the mythology genre and focus with Sci-Fi ala Jules Verne-like stories intended for his usual readership... And he will do it first with Daughter of the Deep. I am not quite sure though if this is a series or a standalone series... Do any of you got an idea?

Check out the placeholder cover of Daughter of the Deep by Rick Riordan.
